What are armored tires?
Cars of high-ranking officials have always attracted attention, and those who are interested in tires are curious about the design features, because it is clear that serial tires are not installed on such cars. Today, we will discuss one of the most common solutions in the world - MICHELIN PAX.
The system has been on the market for a long time, nevertheless, despite analogs, it remains the most popular due to its reliability.
We deliberately call PAX a system, because no single wheel element can be used separately from the others. The tire itself has a fundamentally different structure of the rim rings, which cannot be installed on regular disks with standard humps. The rim ring seems to be curved at first glance, but in fact, a special design is needed for a more secure fixation on the disk in a deflated state.

Of course, the disk also has a special design, both for fixing the special insert and tire, and a special place for the pressure sensor. The special polyurethane insert is designed to continue driving even in case of multiple damages. The calculated speed is 80 km/h, and the guaranteed distance that the wheel must travel is 200 km.
Interestingly, the tire marking has a completely different principle.

This is deciphered as follows:
195: profile width in mm.
620: outer diameter of the tire in mm (unlike the percentage notation of standard tires)
R: radial carcass construction
420: nominal load capacity
A: asymmetric;
90: load index (600 kg).
H: speed index (210 km/h).
It is noteworthy that together with the presentation of the Aurus car for the first persons of Russia, a replacement for the PAX system tires was also presented. The car was equipped with the Kama-133 model, which had not been presented before. Little is known about the tire, but an interesting feature is that despite belonging to the passenger segment, the tire has a solid metal carcass like trucks.
