What do BFGoodrich tire names mean?

One of the most well-known tires in the lineup of the American brand BFGoodrich is the off-road BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2, which is considered a benchmark in its class. Now, the third-generation model All-Terrain T/A KO3 is already available, and if everything is clear with All-Terrain, then what do the abbreviations T/A and KO mean? T/A. This designation has been used by BFGoodrich for over half a century, and it means Traction Advantage, that is, the manufacturer emphasizes that the key advantage of the tire is its high level of grip.

KO — (Key benefit: On and Off-road). This is how All-Terrain class tires are designated, which are designed for use both on asphalt and off-road.

KM (Key benefit: Mud). Tires with the KM abbreviation in the name demonstrate their main advantages during operation in mud, that is, they belong to the Mud-Terrain category.

LT — Light Truck. The LT designation can be found in the names of tires from many brands, including BFGoodrich, and from it, you can understand that the tires are designed for pickups and SUVs.

KX: (Key Benefit: Extreme). Tires for extreme conditions, such as BFGoodrich Krawler T/A KX, developed specifically for rock crawling.

KR and KDR. Tires are designed for off-road racing (Race), in the latter case, for the Dakar rally marathon.

KT (Key Benefit: Toughness). Tires are distinguished by their increased strength and durability. For example, the HD-Terrain T/A KT model is designed for large pickup trucks with powerful engines, which are used, among other things, for transporting heavy cargo. A tire for such vehicles, which are called Heavy Duty, must have increased load capacity and withstand increased loads.
