Start with insurance. Check the conditions of your insurance policy. Some insurance companies compensate for the cost of wheels with reservations or even refuse. But when wheels are stolen, it's a pity not so much for the money as for the amount of lost time. In essence, you have to drop everything and go buy new ones, while the right size may simply not be available.
You should get secret fasteners. This will always deter low-skilled thieves. At the same time, you should remember a few simple rules when choosing and operating such fasteners.
- Don't buy cheap models. The low quality of secret fasteners can always lead to a lot of problems. As a result, when the secret key is twisted off, you may find yourself in a situation where the fastening can only be unscrewed with special tools in a professional service. If this happens while changing a wheel on the road, you won't be able to do without a tow truck. Also, cheap fasteners have few pattern options, and professional violators of public order usually have keys.
- Keep the key with you in the car. Never leave it in the garage or at home. The possibility of unscrewing the wheel should always be available. If you are worried that you will lose the key, then you should choose models with two copies, such models exist.
- It's better to use two sets of secret fasteners. This will protect you from intruders who steal wheels using the method of overtightening. This is a way to unscrew the secret fastening literally with your hands, if you previously overtighten the standard fastening, in which case a gap will appear that allows you to easily extract the cherished bolt or nut. When using two sets, place them opposite each other, in which case the overtightening method will not work.
