Belshina tyre resumes work after a week-long downtime
The Belshina plant halted its operations on March 26. After a forced week-long shutdown, according to the manufacturer's statement, the enterprise is resuming its production activities. The management of the enterprise cited economic problems caused by the import of cheap tires from Asian manufacturers to the country's market as the reason for the shutdown.
According to one of the company's leaders, this was a forced measure. The company's warehouses are overcrowded, and demand does not meet the required standards. Therefore, the decision was made to suspend production.
Moreover, the Belshina plant was far from the only Belarusian enterprise to make a similar decision. The production capacities of the Minsk automobile plant and several other enterprises have been idle since March 27, 2015.
To resolve the issue, representatives of the Belneftekhim concern proposed increasing the customs duty on imported tires to increase the competitiveness of their products. Moreover, such a decision should be made at the level of the Customs Union. Only in this way can companies compete with Asian production, which receives rubber at a more favorable cost and therefore reduces the cost of produced tires.
