Continental's Automated Tire Braking Test Facility Reaches One Million Drives

Since 2012, Continental's automated braking analyzer in enclosed spaces (AIBA) has completed one million trips, testing more than 130,000 tires. The AIBA setup provides reproducible test conditions for analyzing tire characteristics on various road surfaces, including wet and dry.

In the AIBA system, managed by Continental's global tire testing division, rail-guided autonomous vehicles are used to simulate real driving scenarios at speeds of up to 120 km/h. An electromagnetic linear drive system enables autonomous acceleration and braking, eliminating the need for fuel and reducing environmental impact. The fully automated, climate-controlled facility ensures stable test conditions, increasing the comparability of results. Additionally, braking tests can be conducted independently of the specific properties of a particular vehicle.
