Auto Bild tested 55 winter tires
The German magazine Auto Bild has released the results of the qualifying stage of its major winter tire test, which featured 55 models from all price segments in the 205/55 R16 size category 205/55 R16.
To make it to the main part of the test, tires had to demonstrate effective braking on wet and snowy surfaces (braking was performed from 80 and 50 km/h, respectively), and as a result, 20 tires will compete for the win. The leaders of the qualifying round were Bridgestone Blizzak 6, Kumho WinterCraft WP52, and GT Radial WinterPro2 Evo.
Another 13 tires (from Radar to Infinity) were able to meet the standards on wet surfaces but lagged behind the leaders in snow tests. The remaining tires are not recommended for purchase, as they were disqualified in the wet track tests, and their results on snowy surfaces were not even reported. This last group included numerous budget tires, as well as, for example, the Toyo Snowprox S944 from a major Japanese manufacturer and Laufenn I*Fit+ LW31 from the Korean Hankook. Additionally, Kormoran and Riken, which are produced by Michelin, failed the test, and Maxtrek Trek M7 Plus from the Chinese Zhaoqing Junhong Corporation took the last place.
