New summer tires for vans from Kumho announced

At the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition, taking place in Hanover from September 15 to 20, Kumho will present its new summer tyres PorTran Van CS51 for minivans and light commercial vehicles. According to the manufacturer, these tyres meet modern customer demands in the LCV segment and combine fuel efficiency and durability with a high level of safety and optimal load capacity.

The tyres feature a next-generation rubber compound that, together with an optimised road contact patch, increases tread life by 10% compared to the previous model—the Kumho PorTran KC53. Meanwhile, rolling resistance has been reduced by 20%, improving the operational efficiency of commercial vehicles. Kumho also emphasizes that special attention was paid to safety, with braking performance improved by 8% on wet roads and 5% on dry roads. To ensure strength under intensive use, the tyres feature a reinforced construction, sidewall protection, and special elements that reduce the likelihood of stones getting trapped in the tread.

Another key consideration during development was the growing electrification of the light commercial vehicle segment. The PorTran Van tyres are designed for use on electric vehicles, featuring reduced rolling resistance, a high-load-capacity construction, and a variable pitch tread pattern that lowers noise levels. A special marking on the sidewalls indicates that the tyre is optimally suited for electric vans.

In spring and summer of next year, the new tyre will be available in 14 sizes for 15- and 16-inch diameter rims. All sizes have achieved an A rating for wet grip according to the European tyre label classification. In addition, nearly all sizes have a B rating for fuel efficiency and external rolling noise.
