The summer passenger tire Yokohama S306 is characterized by a pronounced sporty handling character, which is very successfully combined with a high level of acoustic and driving comfort. Additionally, it is impossible not to note the excellent applicability of this model, which, thanks to a wide range of tire sizes, is perfectly suitable for installation on most modern passenger car models.
When developing this tire, the specialists of the Japanese company sought to achieve an optimal balance between handling and comfort. That's why this model received a tread with an S-shaped symmetric non-directional pattern. This tread design is characterized by very low noise and vibration loads, as all its elements are arranged with varying pitch.
Like most modern tires, the tread pattern of this model is made in a five-rib design, i.e., it consists of five main elements - longitudinal ribs. Each of them performs a certain function. In the very center of the tread pattern, there is a very wide solid longitudinal rib, which has a double structure and edges with numerous notches. This design solution made it possible to achieve exceptional directional stability and clear responses, which are characteristic of tires with a true sporty character.
Also, to ensure sporty handling, the shoulder areas of the tread were significantly strengthened and enlarged. These measures made it possible to significantly increase the resistance of this part of the tread to deformations that occur under the influence of significant lateral acceleration. As a result, the tire demonstrates excellent stability and reliability when cornering or performing other sharp maneuvers.
Another design solution aimed at ensuring the balance of handling and comfort is the construction of the drainage system. It consists of four longitudinal grooves where moisture accumulates, and numerous transverse channels through which it is discharged outward. The main constructive feature of the drainage system is the location of the transverse channels at a significant angle to the axis of rotation of the wheel, as well as their wedge-shaped form. This combination made it possible to provide high performance on the one hand and low noise levels on the other.
However, the tire Yokohama S306 owes its excellent acoustic comfort mostly to the Spectrum and Sound Control Technology, which was actively used in the creation of the tread pattern. Each element of it was pre-researched for the noise it produces. The shape and size of the tread elements were selected in such a way that the noise from them was as imperceptible as possible to the human ear.
