The winter non-studded tire Yokohama Ice Guard IG20 is a logical continuation of the IG10 model and is designed for a wide range of modern passenger cars. The tire is produced in about fifty different sizes from 14 to 19 inches, which means its wide applicability to almost any model of passenger car.
The main distinctive feature of this tire is its exceptional thermoelasticity, which provides the tire with excellent operational characteristics in different temperature modes. This was achieved thanks to the innovative composition of the rubber mixture, which received the name "black polymer". In addition, the special composition of the rubber mixture helps the tread of the Yokohama Ice Guard IG20 tire to more closely fit the road irregularities, which made it possible to significantly increase the contact patch area.
Despite the elasticity at various temperatures, the tire design has sufficient stiffness, which was ensured by means of a two-layer tread. The inner layer, due to its high degree of stiffness, serves as the basis for the more elastic outer layer. To further strengthen the tread elements, S-shaped lamellas were placed on its surface by the company's engineers. Moreover, the sharp edges of these lamellas are not inferior to steel studs in terms of efficiency.
The design of the symmetrical tread pattern was also developed with the aim of providing excellent operational characteristics in various road conditions. In particular, the rigid longitudinal rib located in the center of the tread pattern provided the tire with excellent directional stability and high efficiency of acceleration and braking.
