The Yokohama Geolandar H/T G038G tire for SUVs has a fairly narrow scope of application. It is designed for Mercedes G-Class vehicles, being one of the elements of their primary equipment, as evidenced by the letter G in its name. In addition, the Japanese manufacturer itself positions this model as suitable for operation mainly on paved roads (80% highway, 20% off-road). As for its "all-season" capability, the possibility of using this model in winter should be approached with extreme caution. Taking into account the climate conditions in our country, its year-round operation is possible only in the southern regions.
3-rib tread pattern
Unlike most competitors, this tire has an original tread pattern design for modern times. It features only three longitudinal ribs, two of which are shoulder zones. Each of them is formed by a multitude of fairly massive blocks of various shapes and sizes. Their configuration depends on the functions they perform during movement.
In particular, the blocks in the central part of the tread, having an arrow-like shape, improve directional stability, give the tire's reactions quickness and accuracy, and reduce rolling resistance. In turn, the shoulder zones, containing a multitude of wide transverse blocks, provide excellent handling during maneuvering, as well as high efficiency during acceleration and braking.
Excellent resistance to aquaplaning
Another advantage of this design with a large number of blocks is the presence of a developed system of drainage channels, located both transversely and longitudinally. At the same time, the longitudinal drainage grooves have a significant internal volume, which significantly increases the resistance to aquaplaning.
