DescriptionDescription Yokohama Geolandar G055
The Yokohama Geolandar G055 passenger tire is a novelty from the famous Japanese manufacturer, designed for crossovers, pickups and other vehicles with increased cross-country ability and SUV category.
This is the company's first off-road tire, which was developed using the BlueEarth technology, the main goal of which is to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere and increase energy efficiency while ensuring a high level of safety while driving. As part of this technology, the shape of this tire was optimized to reduce aerodynamic resistance. Another innovation of this technology was the reduction of the tire's weight, which became significantly lighter than its main competitors. The rubber compound of the tire was composed with a reduction in rolling resistance, which, in combination with the low weight and optimized tread pattern, allowed the Yokohama Geolandar G055 tire to provide excellent fuel efficiency.
Many manufacturers use five longitudinal ribs in their tires, and in this sense, this Japanese tire is no exception. In the center of the tread, there is a wide central rib with a solid structure, which made it possible to achieve excellent directional stability, and the presence of many S-shaped lamellas on the surface of the rib improved the dynamic characteristics of the tire. The two adjacent ribs are equipped with diagonal channels of a curved shape, which improves the efficiency of water removal from the contact patch, which, in combination with four longitudinal grooves, provided the tire with excellent resistance to aquaplaning.
The wide shoulder zones of the tread significantly increased the tire's resistance to slippage, thereby improving its grip on the road when cornering, and the special structure of the shoulder blocks significantly reduced the noise level.
Main features of the Yokohama Geolandar G055 tire
- Excellent traction and handling on various types of surfaces, thanks to a carefully designed tread pattern;
- The use of BlueEarth technology in development allowed to significantly reduce weight and rolling resistance, which led to a significant reduction in fuel consumption;
- Effective combating of aquaplaning, thanks to the system of longitudinal grooves and the curved shape of numerous channels.

This is only the second set of OE tires, so I'll try to describe my feelings compared to the Goodyear Eagle LS 2 225/55 R18 97H that came on my 2008 Mitsubishi Outlander XL. The Geolandar G055 is softer than the first, and at 2.1 bar, they handle the speed bumps and uneven roads quite well, but don't expect the comfort of a luxury tire, especially with the Outlander XL's suspension.

Good day to everyone! Tires on hard 4+ on a five-point scale. I immediately draw attention to the fact that I installed all the positions that relate to snow and ice (winter) but not zeros as I only use tires in the summer! Without long speeches, I will say the following: I have not felt aquaplaning even once, neither on a wet road nor in puddles – I bought and went on a trip to Crimea in a car to check it out,

I specifically looked for tires that unlike purely summer tires allow for later use of studded tires and earlier return to previous ones. So, the choice fell on this model. I can definitely say that I won't be using it in winter, and impressions of use in the transitional season will appear later. Meanwhile, about its use in the summer. It holds the road perfectly, there is no "lateral" softness, I confidently enter turns at speeds where passengers have to hold on for something.
