DescriptionDescription Yokohama Advan ST V802
The summer passenger tire Yokohama Advan ST V802, despite belonging to the line of high-speed highway models, was specifically designed for new SUVs and crossovers, which are characterized by high-speed capabilities. This model, which has a rather narrow specialization, has a fairly wide range of sizes, starting from 225/55R17 and ending with 305/35R24. At the same time, the tire has very high technical characteristics, which is confirmed by the speed indices W and Y.
Tread design
When creating this tire, Japanese tire engineers widely used the same technologies as in models intended exclusively for sports competitions. That's why this model uses an uncharacteristic W-shaped design of a symmetric directional tread pattern. A characteristic feature of this pattern is the shape and arrangement of the tread blocks, due to which the tread design resembles the letter W.
As befits a sports highway tire Yokohama V802, in the center of the tread there is a wide longitudinal rib. Its distinctive feature is massive dimensions and very high rigidity, ensured by a solid construction. Thanks to this solution, the tire was able to provide excellent directional stability throughout the speed range, up to the highest. In addition, the rigid central rib provides an instant reaction of the tire in response to steering wheel turns, which fully corresponds to the concept of sports handling that was adhered to when creating this model.
It's also worth noting the very large contact patch area, which was achieved thanks to a very small radius of the shoulder zone profile. Due to this, the tire demonstrates excellent traction on dry surfaces. In addition, such a profile of the shoulder zones of the tread made it possible to obtain a practically rectangular configuration of the contact patch, which is characterized by a very uniform distribution of pressure. This feature minimized the risk of uneven tread wear, which significantly increased the service life of the tire.
Safety in rainy conditions
This model allows you to move confidently and, most importantly, safely at a very high speed even in very heavy rain. Such abilities were largely ensured by the highest performance of the drainage system of the Yokohama Advan ST V802 tire. Despite the fact that the drainage system of the tire consists of only two longitudinal water drainage grooves, it has exceptional resistance to aquaplaning, which was achieved due to the W-shaped arrangement of transverse drainage grooves. The main feature of such a drainage system is a somewhat different principle of operation, in which the transverse grooves play the main role in removing water from the contact patch, diverting moisture not only through the shoulder zones of the tread but also through the longitudinal grooves. As a result, the tire demonstrates very stable and reliable traction with a wet surface.
Stability of characteristics regardless of temperature
For any tire designed for movement at very high speeds, it is important to maintain excellent operating characteristics in any external environment conditions. For this tire, a special rubber compound was used, which provided the Yokohama Advan ST V802 tire with stability of all main characteristics at any temperature, which significantly increased the level of traffic safety. Such abilities were ensured thanks to the use of special polymers of a new generation in the composition of the rubber compound, each of which provides the tire with the necessary level of elasticity in a certain temperature range.
Lightweight and durable carcass
Since this model is designed for quite heavy vehicles, such as SUVs and crossovers, the Japanese specialists faced a rather difficult task of creating a strong but lightweight tire that can withstand extreme loads when driving at high speeds. Therefore, when developing the carcass, technologies used in racing tires were applied. The carcass of this model is made of viscose material, which is covered with a two-layer steel breaker. Directly under the tread is a three-layer casing, the synthetic fibers of which are wound using a seamless technology. The construction of the tire's sidewall was also significantly strengthened. The tire's flanks are reliably protected by a very dense filler, and the stiffness of the sidewalls is increased by special steel plates.
Main features of the high-speed tire Yokohama Advan ST V802
- Unique W-shaped design of a symmetric directional tread pattern provides excellent traction both on dry and wet roads;
- Wide application of racing tire technologies made it possible to achieve phenomenal operating characteristics;
- Innovative composition of the rubber compound endowed the tire with excellent elasticity in a wide temperature range, as well as a large margin of strength.

Picked up in September 2015 a 305/45R20 on a Prado 150 2010. Had a Kumho Extrem 4.5 years prior in the same size, was happy with it until the end, but also happy with the Yokohama so far (had the same on my previous Outlander Xs)

I wouldn't recommend
I bought these tires because there was no alternative. The choice was - GoodYear, Pirelli, and these ones. Well, I simply don't like Pirelli without any particular reason, and I already had GoodYear - didn't like the handling. I had a good impression from cheap Yokohama - and decided to give it a try.

This was the 3rd set of tyres on this car. And the first to allow the 2.5 Turbo Forester to run to its full potential. They hold well on both dry and wet road surfaces, and don't scrub in corners. I never used to place much value on acoustic comfort, but subjectively quieter than the previous two sets. Most pleasing of all was their stability on bad roads.
