The summer tire Toyo Proxes R40 is offered by the Japanese manufacturer as an element of the primary equipment of the recently debuted in Europe compact crossover Mazda CX-3. The tire belongs to the High Terrain category and is intended for use, primarily, on asphalt roads. Operation on dirt roads is allowed, but to a very limited extent, as is the case with all other HT tires.
Tire designed in "digital"
When creating the tire design, computer-aided three-dimensional modeling tools were used. The complex, which combines hardware and software, was named A.T.O.M. It has extensive capabilities, which allowed, in particular, to create a frame from synthetic materials with high strength and low weight. A significant part of the tire's reinforcement fell on the sidewalls, the cord of which is made using progressive spiral winding. Thanks to this, the tire has a higher carrying capacity than analogs for passenger cars, which ensures reliable operation on a car that has been weighted down due to the all-wheel drive transmission.
In addition to the frame, the tread pattern is also "digital". From millions of combinations of the number, shape, size, and arrangement of elements, one was selected, which provides excellent traction and handling without compromising fuel efficiency and acoustic comfort.
Compound consisting of two-thirds "silica"
The tire tread is made from a rubber mixture with an increased content of "silica". This was achieved by adding special polymeric compounds to the composition. They provide a uniform distribution of all components of the compound and, at the same time, increase the strength of molecular bonds between them. As a result, the tread not only grips the road surface well in the rain but also retains its integrity when driving at high speeds due to improved tear and tensile strength. In addition, in such conditions, the tread shows a low level of heating, which has a positive effect on both fuel efficiency and service life.
3D-lamellas
Another feature of the tire tread is the presence of lamellas with the most progressive three-dimensional structure of the walls in the blocks of the shoulder zones. Due to the numerous protrusions on their surface, when in contact with the road surface, a reliable fixation of the lamellas in the open position is achieved, and, in addition, the mobility of the blocks is limited. On the one hand, this improves longitudinal traction in rainy conditions, and on the other hand, handling and directional stability when maneuvering. Also, three-dimensional grooves in the shoulder zones additionally optimize the distribution of external load on the contact patch, making it even more uniform. This noticeably reduces rolling resistance and, in addition, increases the durability of the tread to uneven wear.
Main features of Toyo Proxes R40
- The design of the tread, developed using modern "digital" technologies, increases performance in any conditions;
- Fast and accurate responses to steering wheel turns are provided by the stiffness of the shoulder zones and sidewalls;
- A strong and lightweight frame construction reduces fuel consumption and increases mileage before replacement;
- Special recesses on the side walls of the longitudinal drainage grooves reduce the noise level;
- A compound with a high content of "silica" and special polymers enhances traction in rainy conditions and ensures the integrity of the tread when driving at high speeds.
