The W/T prefix in the name means Winter Terrain, i.e., this model is designed for operation in snowy and wet conditions, where it demonstrates excellent performance.
This is largely due to the tread pattern, which has an asymmetric design. Such a arrangement of tread elements allows the tire to have versatile capabilities. Another characteristic feature of the Toyo Open Country W/T model is the presence of a huge number of separate blocks with a rectangular or trapezoidal shape. These tread blocks, by their arrangement, form six longitudinal ribs, which provide not only excellent directional stability but also excellent resistance to uneven wear due to more even pressure distribution. In addition, these blocks form a huge number of sharp edges that effectively grip even very slippery surfaces.
Also, to provide effective traction on icy and snowy surfaces, each tread block is equipped with S-shaped lamellas, which, when in contact with the road surface, form an additional huge number of sharp edges.
