Unlike many other models for All Terrain category off-road vehicles, the Toyo Open Country A/T Plus all-season tire was created with the preferences of European car enthusiasts in mind. This allows it to demonstrate good handling on paved roads with excellent performance on unpaved surfaces.
Wide range of applications
The versatility of this tire is largely due to the use of a tread pattern with a symmetrical design. Like many of Toyo's passenger models, it features several functional areas. The outer edges of the tread, where a multitude of wide cross-directional blocks are located, provide confident behavior on unpaved surfaces. This is especially evident on earth and sand with reduced bearing capacity. On such a surface, the shoulder blocks act as off-road grippers.
In turn, the inner part of the tread has a different functional purpose. It ensures stable handling, efficient braking, and acoustic comfort. All these tasks are solved with the help of three longitudinal ribs formed from blocks. The distance between them is minimal, and they themselves have massive dimensions, increasing the contact patch area and preventing deformation during movement. At the same time, the arrangement of blocks with an offset relative to each other reduces the risk of resonant noise, which increases the acoustic comfort, primarily inside the vehicle's cabin.
Optimized compound
The composition of the tread rubber compound was significantly changed specifically for this tire. The key innovation was the introduction of polymers. A complex of chemicals called Long Life, interacting with other components at the molecular level, provides the compound with increased strength and durability. This property ensures the integrity of the tread when driving at high speeds, and off-road - the same advantage, but when subjected to impact from irregularities.
It is worth noting that the content of "silica" has remained at the same high level. The use of polymers ensures the uniformity of the rubber compound, allowing the tire to literally stick to the wet surface, closely following even the smallest irregularities.
Durability with minimal weight
The high performance of the tire is largely ensured by the optimized design of the carcass and breaker. Both components have received significant reinforcement in the form of additional cords. Thanks to the use of synthetic materials and progressive winding methods, the appearance of these components did not lead to a significant increase in the weight of the tire, which cannot be said about its carrying capacity and resistance to impact. Both properties have increased, and to such an extent that for the markets of some countries, the Japanese manufacturer offers extended warranty periods for this model.
