The winter studded tire Toyo Observe G2S owes its existence to a number of "weaknesses" that were identified as a result of the operation of the Observe G2 model in the conditions of the Far North. To eliminate them, Japanese tire manufacturers had to significantly change the tire design, which explains the appearance of the letter S in the name.
Two-layer tread
One of the main innovations was the appearance of a two-layer tread. Its inner layer is made of a more rigid compound. This was done not only to improve handling, but also to ensure more reliable attachment of studs to the tread. It is here that their mounting seats are located, which, unlike the previous model, have a hexagonal shape. In addition, the more rigid "substrate" significantly limits the mobility of the studs during contact, which has a positive effect on the coupling properties when driving on ice.
In turn, the outer layer of the tread differs in increased elasticity. This allows the tire to demonstrate good coupling properties even in strong frosts.
Increased density of lamellas
Another significant change is the increase in the number of lamellas, which have changed structurally quite noticeably. This made it possible to expand their functional capabilities, and with it, improve a number of operational properties of the tire. When in contact with the road, the lamellas not only form a multitude of engagement edges, but also, due to the programmed deformation of the blocks, increase the contact patch, simultaneously optimizing the distribution of external load on it. This, in turn, has a positive effect on handling and resistance to uneven wear.
