Another factor that determines the high efficiency of the tread on ice is the use of a special rubber compound in its manufacture. In addition to natural rubber, it contains a large amount of silicon dioxide, a component known as "silica". This gives the tread elasticity, retaining a significant part of it even at extremely low temperatures, allowing the tread pattern elements to closely follow the road surface irregularities. The second important advantage of using this compound is the increased resistance to abrasive wear, the formation of cracks and tears in the tread structure, which significantly increases the mileage of the tire, especially when operated on poor roads.
