Spare Tire Temporary Use — a specialized engineering solution, designed as a temporary replacement for a wheel in case of a puncture or blowout. Its mission is simple and specific: to get the vehicle with a damaged wheel to the nearest tyre fitting shop, taking up minimal space in the trunk and adding minimal weight to the overall mass.
Lightness and compactness as a priority
Unlike a full-size spare tyre, which is identical to the vehicle's main wheels, this model is created with a lightweight architecture. Its diameter is smaller and narrower than a standard wheel. This is achieved by reducing the number of reinforcing layers in the carcass: a typical temporary spare tyre contains only one layer of polyester in the sidewall and two steel breaker layers with a polyester insert in the tread area. This design solution has two goals. Firstly, weight reduction. Secondly, space savings. And if a full-size spare tyre can be used indefinitely along with the other wheels, the temporary spare tyre is a deliberate engineering compromise, where tread life and performance are sacrificed for compactness.
Tread pattern and grip
The tread depth is significantly reduced. This means that the amount of rubber available for wear is substantially less, and the ability to evacuate water is limited. The tread pattern is highly simplified. Its task is not to provide sporty handling or directional stability at high speeds, but to provide basic grip sufficient for moderate driving to the nearest workshop.
Operational limitations
Speed not exceeding 80 km/h. Exceeding this threshold may lead to carcass destruction due to insufficient structural strength and overheating of the compound. Distance not exceeding 80 km. This is a guideline limit, after which it is recommended to replace the temporary spare tyre with a standard one.
