Despite the relatively small fame of the brand, the Roadstone Winguard Spike studded winter tire has very high operational characteristics. The fact is that it was developed by specialists of the South Korean company Nexen, whose products are today represented in the markets of many countries under its own Roadstone brand.
V-shaped tread pattern
Like a modern tire, the Roadstone Winguard Spike, designed for operation in truly harsh winter conditions, this model is equipped with a very popular symmetrical directional tread pattern with an original V-shaped design. It is formed by a zigzag central longitudinal rib, consisting of many separate blocks connected to each other by rigid bridges. They transform this tread element into a single solid structure, providing the tire with several important advantages.
First of all, this is excellent directional stability, which is especially clearly manifested when moving on slippery roads from snow or ice. Also, it is impossible not to notice the significantly reduced rolling resistance, which had a very favorable effect on the fuel efficiency of this model.
Increased number of gripping edges
Another sign of this model's belonging to modern winter tires is the presence of an increased number of gripping edges. At the same time, the vast majority of them are formed not by separate tread blocks, but by wave-shaped lamellas cut into them. When in contact with the road, these elements open up, forming a multitude of additional gripping edges, while their walls, due to the wave-shaped configuration, are tightly fixed to each other, thereby increasing the stiffness of the blocks and, accordingly, the handling on dry roads.
