Description Point S Winterstar
Point S Winterstar – a model from a Chinese manufacturer, designed for a wide range of passenger cars that operate in regions with icy phenomena and snowy winters. It has achieved a balance between aggressive traction on ice, resistance to skidding, and unexpectedly low noise levels.
Self-cleaning and directional stability
The symmetrical directional tread pattern is a well-thought-out solution. When moving, the snow slush or water is directed from the center to the edges of the tread under the action of centrifugal forces, quickly evacuating beyond the contact area. This is critically important on wet ice or packed snow: the cleaner the blocks, the higher the coefficient of friction.
Lamella network
On each block, a numerous network of wavy lamellas is cut. The wavy shape prevents the lamellas from closing under load – they constantly maintain micro-gaps, creating additional sharp edges. When accelerating, the latter dig into the ice and snow, when braking, they work like "plows". The result is that the number of active gripping edges per square centimeter is increased by 30% compared to analogues.
Compound
The rubber compound is represented by a whole complex of components, which includes:
- natural rubber – provides elasticity and resistance to cracking in the cold;
- synthetic rubber – adds wear resistance and stability of properties;
- silicon dioxide – improves traction on wet ice.
The result is that the tire remains soft and "grippy" even in severe frost, does not harden, and maintains the contact patch of maximum area.
Key features of Point S Winterstar:
- winter model for a wide range of passenger cars;
- directional symmetrical tread – effective self-cleaning from snow and water, directional stability;
- thousands of gripping edges for improved acceleration and braking characteristics on ice and packed snow;
- a mixture of natural and synthetic rubber with silica and a package of elastomers to maintain softness and elasticity at low temperatures.
