The Pirelli Winter 270 Sottozero non-studded winter tire is the flagship model of a relatively recently introduced line. Unlike its younger counterparts in the Winter Sottozero line, this tire was initially designed for sports cars, which determined the presence of most of the technological developments in the field of passenger tires created by the Italian manufacturer over several previous years.
Temperature Dynamic Compound
Behind this not very clear English phrase is a special rubber compound, which the Italian tire giant with full right considers one of its main achievements. Its main advantage is the preservation of optimal elasticity of the tread, which, in combination with its asymmetrical directional pattern, provides reliable traction in a very wide temperature range.
Interactive Brickwork Siping
The IBS technology is an original arrangement of numerous lamellas, which most resembles brickwork, which is reflected in its name. The practical benefit of this solution is to provide additional directional stability not only when making sharp maneuvers but also when driving straight. The "brickwork" allows the lamellas to shift depending on the impact of road surface irregularities.
Polyamide fibers
Another feature of the Pirelli Winter 270 Sottozero tire design is polyamide fibers. Thanks to the presence of this component, the tire tread has acquired the ability to more effectively dissipate heat and, in addition, much better resist the aquaplaning effect.
Dual rubber compound composition
One of the key features of this model is the different composition of the rubber compound used to manufacture the outer and inner sides of the tread. Previously, such a solution was successfully applied only in flagship models of motorcycle tires. The outer side of the tread is made of a more elastic rubber compound, which provides the tire with additional traction when cornering. The inner part of the tread pattern is made of a more rigid composition, thanks to which the tire has gained even greater stability and stability when driving straight.
Technologies from summer passenger tires
Given the rather specific applicability of this model, the specialists of the Italian manufacturer "borrowed" many design solutions from summer analogs. In particular, the internal structure was almost completely copied, which is practically identical to the one used in the Pzero line tires. In addition, the sidewall of the Winter Sottozero W270 is created using the same technologies as the high-performance summer Pirelli models. Thanks to this, this winter model has excellent handling on dry and wet roads free from snow and ice.
Main features of the Pirelli Winter 270 Sottozero tire
- a winter tire specifically designed for powerful supercars, providing excellent traction on any type of surface;
- two rubber compound compositions - for the outer and inner sides of the tread, which improved traction in corners and stability on straight sections;
- special components and the latest rubber compound manufacturing technologies provide the tread with optimal elasticity in a very wide temperature range;
- an original louvering method, which provides increased directional stability and traction on snow and ice;
- an asymmetrical tread pattern with multiple traction edges, thanks to which the tire demonstrates excellent traction characteristics on any winter surface;
- excellent handling on snow- and ice-free asphalt is provided by the latest technologies borrowed from high-performance summer tires.
