The emergence of the summer passenger tire Pirelli PZero Nero GT is associated exclusively with marketing.
The Italian manufacturer decided to expand the target audience of the very good Pzero Nero model at the expense of owners of powerful sports cars. This, in fact, is reflected in its name, in which the GT abbreviation appeared, meaning Gran Turismo, familiar to a significant part of car enthusiasts. Among other features of this model, one cannot but note the presence of a very wide range of sizes, starting with sizes intended for wheels with a landing diameter of 16 inches. In total, customers are offered 60 sizes, 11 of which the original version of Pzero Nero was never released.
Asymmetric design
Like the "original", PZero Nero GT is equipped with an asymmetric directional tread pattern. But, unlike it, this model has a number of significant innovations. Firstly, these are three wide longitudinal ribs, from which the central part of the tread pattern is formed. All these tread elements are characterized by very high structural rigidity, which was achieved due to the presence of breaks throughout the central ribs.
In addition to rigidity, such a design of the central part of the tread pattern made it possible to significantly increase the size of the contact patch, ensuring its stability regardless of the conditions and mode of movement. As a result, the tire demonstrates very fast and accurate reactions to steering wheel turns, which, in turn, significantly improves handling.
Modified rubber compound
Another innovation of the Pirelli PZero Nero GT, caused by the specific operating conditions on sports passenger cars, was the rubber compound. The appearance in its composition of a number of new components made it possible to significantly improve handling and braking efficiency, both on dry and wet roads, thereby ensuring the maximum level of safety when driving aggressively. Also, one cannot but note the improved resistance to abrasive wear, which is also one of the advantages of the updated tread rubber compound.
Multi-radius tread profile
In addition to the optimized rubber compound and the changed design of the central part, the Nero GT differs from its original version in the tread profile. Its key feature is a shape that has ten different radii. This technical solution made it possible to give the tire a number of important advantages. Firstly, this is a significant increase in the size of the contact patch. Also, one cannot but note the optimization of the distribution of external pressure on it. The biggest plus of the above-mentioned features was a significant increase in stability during braking and acceleration, as well as when passing turns. In addition, the resistance of the tread to uneven wear increased, which significantly extends its service life.
Excellent grip on wet roads
When developing the Pirelli PZero Nero GT, Italian tire manufacturers paid considerable attention to ensuring maximum grip on wet roads. Of course, a significant part of it is provided by the tread rubber compound. But, at the same time, the contribution of the asymmetric tread pattern to the solution of this issue is extremely difficult to overestimate thanks to a competent approach to creating its drainage system.
Its main components are four longitudinal grooves that separate the main functional zones of the tread pattern from each other. Thanks to their width and depth, these elements have a significant internal volume. Another design feature of the drainage system is numerous transverse grooves. Their curved shape contributes to the acceleration of water circulation through them. All this, in combination, allows the contact patch to very intensively get rid of excess moisture, which, in turn, provides the tire with excellent resistance to aquaplaning even in the most unfavorable weather conditions.

- excellent resistance to aquaplaning is provided by a thoughtful drainage system that easily copes with the removal of even a very large amount of water from the contact patch.
