The Pirelli Dragon Sport summer tire was developed for the Australian and New Zealand markets, which is reflected in its operational characteristics. The model is positioned by the Italian manufacturer as one of the flagship models, designed for premium class passenger cars. Against the background of other brand tires, it stands out for its higher level of comfort, provided due to the reduced noise and vibration levels, and improved smoothness of the ride.
The tread pattern, although designed in an asymmetric design, has only a conditional division into functional zones, differing in features characteristic of tires with a symmetrical arrangement of elements. In particular, exactly in the middle of the tread, there is a double longitudinal rib, which provides directional stability at high speeds and, at the same time, a more even distribution of pressure on the road surface, minimizing wear. Another important feature of the pattern is the presence of an increased number of grooves. Some of them are made in the shape of a sickle, which further increases their effectiveness. It is also worth noting the mutual arrangement of drainage elements, whereby excess moisture is directed beyond the contact area without obstruction, even from its central part, which allows the tire to avoid aquaplaning even at very high speeds. The next significant difference is the design of the shoulder areas. They contain wide blocks that increase the stability of grip and the accuracy of steering in turns, and, in addition, due to the large number and large area of the side walls, reduce the heating of the tread, contributing to more intense heat dissipation. This has a positive effect on both the fuel efficiency of the tire and its mileage, preventing the appearance of small cracks in the tread.
Main features:
- a rigid double rib in the middle of the tread provides directional stability at high speeds, prevents uneven wear;
- drainage grooves in the shape of a sickle enhance resistance to hydroplaning, reduce wear and noise;
- wide blocks on the edges of the tread increase grip and steering accuracy in turns, prevent overheating of the tire during prolonged exposure to high loads.
