The Pirelli Chrono 2 summer tire, like its predecessor, is designed for installation on modern minivans and light trucks. Despite this, the tire has speed indices R and T, which implies safe movement at speeds of up to 170 and 190 km/h. In addition, this model is equipped with high load indices - 106 and 109, meaning that the maximum permissible load on the axle is an impressive 1900 or 2060 kg. All these characteristics fully meet the requirements for modern commercial tires, which must withstand long mileage at high speeds and with a large weight of transported cargo.
When developing the previous version of this tire, Italian tire manufacturers tried to achieve, first of all, excellent traction characteristics, both on dry and wet roads. At the same time, economy indicators were given much less attention than they should have been. In the new model, this shortcoming has been largely eliminated, if not completely. Additionally, the new Pirelli Chrono 2 tire, thanks to its non-directional symmetric tread pattern with a large number of individual tread blocks, feels quite comfortable not only on roads with a solid surface but also on soft and unstable soil.
The range of the new model includes three dozen sizes with a diameter from 14 to 16 inches. Such diversity provides this tire with excellent applicability to most modern models of commercial vehicles.
Excellent fuel economy
As you know, the previous model had one significant drawback - increased rolling resistance, which seriously worsened the fuel economy indicators. To combat this shortcoming, the company's specialists took a number of measures. In particular, the tread profile was changed, which allowed not only optimizing the shape and size of the contact patch but also giving the tire even greater comfort. Additionally, the tire's carcass was seriously strengthened, especially in the sidewall area, which also reduced rolling resistance and, at the same time, increased the effectiveness of braking due to the increased structural rigidity of the tire as a whole.
Excellent resistance to aquaplaning of the Italian tire
Like its predecessor, this model is favorably distinguished by its excellent behavior on wet roads. This is largely due to the three longitudinal drainage grooves located longitudinally in the central part of the tread. Their size has been slightly increased, which allowed significantly increasing the performance of the water drainage system. As a result, the Pirelli Chrono 2 tire demonstrates excellent stability even in very heavy rain.
Reduced level of uneven wear
In the central part of the tread, there are two longitudinal ribs, which are quite massive even by the standards of commercial tires. This made it possible to significantly improve the evenness of the distribution of external pressure over the contact patch. Thanks to this, the tread has become much more resistant to uneven wear, which led to an increase in its service life. Additionally, the even distribution of weight over the contact patch has significantly improved the handling characteristics - the tire demonstrates excellent directional stability and low propensity for skidding when entering a turn.
