The Nordman RS2 winter tire is specifically designed for challenging road conditions in winter in regions north of the Arctic Circle. This model is characterized by excellent handling and traction on icy and snowy surfaces. These properties are ensured by the application of a whole complex of technical solutions, as well as modern materials.
Effective rubber compound at low temperatures
The tire tread is made from a rubber compound, the composition of which was selected taking into account the operating conditions of non-studded winter friction models. Two-thirds of its composition is "silica". Moreover, its latest version, created on the basis of cryosilane, is used. This component allows the tread to maintain its elasticity at very low ambient temperatures. Another of its features is increased heat resistance. Thanks to this, the tire tread retains its properties at temperatures above 0 degrees Celsius, which gives it additional versatility. In turn, the ability to maintain elasticity at an optimal level over a wide temperature range allows the tire to demonstrate excellent handling and traction on slippery icy and wet spring surfaces.
Multifunctional lamellae in the shoulder zones
The shoulder zones of the tread contain many lamellae. Due to a number of design features, these elements perform a wide range of functions. When in contact with the road surface, they form numerous edges that improve traction on icy surfaces. Inside the lamellae, there are special cavities that, due to their droplet shape, dry the contact patch, absorbing water from the road surface.
Improved resistance to slushplaning
Another feature of the block design in the shoulder zones is the zigzag shape of their transverse walls, which contain several sharp teeth. This allows them to easily penetrate the slush layer, breaking it up. This significantly accelerates the process of self-cleaning the tread from foreign inclusions, which, in turn, improves traction in adverse road conditions.
Increased density of lamellae
Traction on icy surfaces is ensured by the high density of lamellae. These miniature tread elements form several thousand sharp edges that easily penetrate the water film on the ice surface or simply cling to dense snow. It is worth noting that the lamellae are arranged almost at a right angle, which significantly increases their effectiveness when braking and accelerating. This feature is enhanced by the significant length of the lamellae in the shoulder zones and the central longitudinal rib.
Main features of the Nordman RS2 tire
- effectiveness at negative temperatures is ensured by a rubber compound containing "silica" based on cryosilane;
- lamellae in the blocks of the shoulder zones reduce the braking distance, and also dry the road surface, absorbing water into special droplet-shaped cavities;
- teeth on the side walls of the blocks of the shoulder zones increase resistance to slushplaning;
- increased density of lamellae improves traction on slippery winter surfaces, and their ability to lock in the open position, limiting the mobility of the blocks, provides improved handling.
