DescriptionDescription Nordman C
The winter tire Nokian Nordman C is a unique tire product in many ways. Being designed for commercial equipment, this model provides excellent traction in variable winter conditions, regardless of road surface characteristics. This is largely due to the use of a number of technologies in its design, which were previously used only in Finnish company's Hakkapeliitta passenger car models.
Increased service life
In the development of this model, much attention was paid to ensuring maximum durability. Among the many other measures taken to improve this operational property, it is worth noting the reinforced design of the tire rim. A special sealing ring has appeared in it, which prevents dirt, small stones, and other foreign objects from entering between the wheel disc and the tire. This prevents mechanical damage, thereby increasing the service life. Moreover, not only the tire but also the wheel disc.
Wavy profile of the drainage grooves at the bottom in the center
One of the solutions borrowed from winter passenger car models was the wavy bottom of the drainage grooves located along the central rib. This solution made it possible to significantly increase the resistance of this protector element to the continuous action of lateral acceleration forces, which, in turn, improved directional stability, reduced rolling resistance, reduced the likelihood of uneven wear, as well as the effect of aquaplaning and slushplaning.
Compound with rapeseed oil
A significant part of the excellent traction properties demonstrated by this model on winter surfaces is ensured by the characteristics of the rubber mixture. Its composition is largely unique. In addition to the increased amount of silica, it is distinguished by the presence of rapeseed oil. This natural component, in combination with special functional polymers, makes the rubber mixture very elastic, but at the same time resistant to cracking.
4-edged studs
This tire is one of the first commercial models from Nokian to receive more efficient 4-edged studs. Moreover, not only the hard alloy insert is not round, but also other design elements of the stud, including its base. This solution made it possible to achieve two advantages at once - increasing the length of the stud's traction edges and its more reliable fixation in the tread.
In addition to the 4-edged shape of the hard alloy insert, the high efficiency of the tire's Nordman C studs is ensured by the so-called "bear's claw". It is a special reinforcement on the front face of each of the tread blocks. With its help, the stud is held in a vertical position when in contact with the road surface. This feature not only increases traction on ice and compacted snow but also makes it stable.
Double blocks in the center of the tread
In addition to the rigid longitudinal rib, stability and reliability of traction, directional stability at high speed are ensured by the rigid design of a number of tread blocks located in a row. Each two of them are connected by a rigid bridge, which, together with massive sizes, makes them more resistant to dynamic deformation. As a result, ease of handling on a slippery road at any speed.
Main features of the Nordman C studded winter tire
- a special sealing ring prevents dirt, stones, and other foreign objects from entering between the wheel disc and the tire rim, which increases the service life;
- 4-edged studs in combination with special reinforcements in the front part of the tread blocks provide exceptional traction on ice and compacted snow;
- double blocks in the central part of the tread help the tire maintain stability and stability when moving at high speed;
- a compound with increased silica content, rapeseed oil, and functional polymers allows the tread to remain elastic at low temperatures, as well as improves resistance to cracks.

Softer and therefore fewer body hits on potholes and even Nokias, were once fitted with Pirellis, better to sweep away snow, both forwards and backwards, my front-wheel drive Citroen Jumper H2L2.

I've driven the Nokian Hakkapeliitta for a season, not much though, just 10,000 km. The all-season tire was on from the factory, but as soon as the first frost came, I realized I needed to switch to winter tires. I decided on studded tires and don't regret it. Of course, there are no miracles - the car won't stop on ice, and driving requires caution. But it gets out of snowdrifts and back on track. It's noisy, but that's more of an issue with the lack of soundproofing in the GAZelle. Visually, I haven't noticed any missing studs over the winter, although I haven't checked thoroughly. It's definitely worth the money.

Bought in February in 2014 when I was 14. The tire is generally good but the tread pattern I think isn't suitable for a minivan. Wear occurs at the edge of the tread, while the centre hardly wears out, requiring more air pressure than recommended by VW. In the first three years, I only used it when it was snowing and icy, after 20,000 km I lost 5 studs per wheel. In Novorossiysk - Tuapse
