The Nokian Snowproof winter tire belongs to the so-called "friction" models, which, despite the absence of studs, are designed for use in regions with moderately cold climates. Together with their increased width, this significantly increases the intensity of removing excess moisture and heavy mix of snow, water, and road slush from under the tire. As a result, even in the most unfavorable weather conditions, the reliability of control and stable traction during acceleration and deceleration are ensured. It is worth noting the use of shoulder drainage grooves with a stepped profile. They form additional edges that enhance traction on snowy surfaces.

The tire tread is made of a rubber compound optimized with regard to the specific characteristics of the climate of Northern European countries. It is characterized by an extended range of "operating" temperatures, starting from "near zero" marks. Other important properties of this compound include increased resistance to abrasive wear and the ability to intensely dissipate heat from the tire's internal components, reducing rolling resistance.
