All its tires, the Finnish manufacturer develops, taking into account the road conditions in its homeland. Nokian Rotiiva H/T is no exception, as it provides excellent handling both on asphalt and on gravel, demonstrating efficiency on light off-road. The versatility of application is ensured by the use of original technical solutions and new materials.
Stable traction on wet surfaces
To improve the performance of the drainage system, Finnish tire manufacturers used several solutions. The key one was the design of transverse grooves located both in the center and on the outer sides of the tread. Their dimensions, shape, and location are chosen so that these elements reinforce each other, working together to provide an even distribution of water flows and their fastest circulation. Thanks to this, the tread effectively prevents aquaplaning.
Increased steering precision
To a large extent, the high performance of the tire on the highway is achieved by the original design of the drainage grooves adjacent to the shoulder areas of the tread. At their intersections, the side walls are inclined, which limits the mobility of the blocks under the influence of transverse acceleration forces. Thanks to this, they are transmitted much faster to the bearing elements of the tire's structure. As a result, it reacts much faster and more accurately to steering wheel turns.
Improved maneuverability stability
Along the edges of the tread, there are longitudinal slots. They are multifunctional, as they improve several operational properties at once. Firstly, this is an increase in traction properties when maneuvering due to the formation of additional longitudinal edges. Additionally, the slots, literally displacing the blocks they divide, increase the width of the contact patch, reducing the specific pressure on the road surface. This increases the tread's resistance to wear and reduces rolling resistance.
Multifunctional longitudinal grooves
The grooves between the longitudinal ribs are exceptionally functional for such elements. On their bottom, there are special rectangular protrusions. They prevent stones from getting stuck in the tread, which minimizes the risk of mechanical damage, thereby increasing the reliability of the tire on gravel and stony surfaces.
The side surfaces of the grooves contain numerous round depressions arranged in a checkerboard pattern. They prevent the formation of vortices in the air flow, which is the source of high-frequency noises. This noticeably increases acoustic comfort.
The Finnish tire manufacturers have tried to maximize the effectiveness of the grooves in performing their direct functions, namely, water drainage. To do this, their surface was polished to a mirror finish, which allowed the process of drying the contact patch to be accelerated.
Main features of the Nokian Rotiiva H/T tire
- confident behavior on wet surfaces, thanks to the optimized design of transverse grooves;
- increased steering precision is provided by the trapezoidal profile of the blocks on the edge of the tread;
- ring-shaped shoulder slots improve traction and handling when maneuvering, reduce rolling resistance and tread wear;
- multifunctional longitudinal grooves prevent aquaplaning and stone jamming, reduce noise levels
