Despite its fairly long presence on the domestic market and the existence of a large number of more modern competitors, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R winter tire still remains a product with very relevant operational properties. This is entirely due to the technologies and materials used in its design, which have given this model excellent characteristics.
"Activators" of lamellas
The tread of this tire is equipped with lamellas of several types, which work as a single whole, providing maximum grip even in the most unfavorable conditions. In particular, the wider lamellas, when in contact with the road, cause the opening of numerous wavy lamellas, which, by creating a multitude of additional edges, improve the longitudinal traction and coupling properties on ice and rolled snow. In addition, they dry the contact patch due to the presence of internal cavities, thereby ensuring more reliable grip with the road.
Rapeseed oil compound
The tread of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R is made from an innovative compound for its time. It is characterized by a very high silica content. Thanks to this, the tire remains elastic even at very low temperatures, providing excellent grip during severe frosts. The increase in silica content was achieved by introducing another component into the compound, namely rapeseed oil. This organic substance has increased the strength of the tread, preserving its integrity at both low and high temperatures of the environment.
Sealing ring in the rim
In addition, it is impossible not to note the design of the rim of this tire. There is a special seal here, in the inner cavity of which there is a special ballast filler. Thanks to this, the tire is more tightly fixed on the wheel disk, which, in turn, significantly improves handling and maneuverability, as well as reduces the likelihood of damage when driving on uneven roads.
Main features of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R tire
- lamellas of several types not only form several thousand edges of grip, but also dry the contact patch, which gives stability and reliability to the grip properties on ice and rolled snow;
- a compound with increased silica content and rapeseed oil gives the tire elasticity even at very low temperatures, as well as ensures the integrity of the tread when exposed to aggressive temperature fluctuations;
- the seal in the rim provides a more tight fixation of the tire on the wheel disk, which, on the one hand, improves handling and maneuverability, and on the other hand, increases reliability.
