Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3
Tire specifications
DescriptionDescription Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3
The winter tire Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3 belongs to the premium class, is installed on light trucks, provides stability of coupling properties, both on snow and on icy surfaces. It is distinguished by its strength characteristics, as well as a long service life.
The model replaced its predecessor LT2, differing in the design of the tread, its depth, and a number of other features.
Compound specifications
The tire uses a new rubber compound called Arctic Grip, the distinctive feature of which is increased strength, expressed in resistance to tears and punctures. This factor increases the service life even under intense load in extreme conditions (low temperatures, sharp fluctuations, increased loads).
Steering stabilization
The tread pattern, made in an aggressive style, provides quick cleaning of the contact patch from snow masses. Its central part contains elements responsible for the quick response to the actions of the steering wheel. To improve coupling properties and traction, three-dimensional lamellae were used.
New lamellae and activators
In the shoulder area, there are special lamella activators that provide improved safety properties in conditions of rapid change in temperature characteristics and road surface. This is achieved by "activating" smaller lamellae with larger ones. Such interaction increases stability even on icy surfaces.
The main mass of lamellae is a arrow-shaped pattern, which is aimed at creating comfortable conditions when moving on icy and snowy road sections. Thanks to this, the model differs in effective self-cleaning and stability on winter roads.
Brake Boosters
The tire has a brake assist system called Brake Boosters. These are special elements that, having a increased number of edges, reduce the braking distance.
Protected sidewalls
The presence of reinforced arming in the side zones eliminates punctures and cuts, as well as allows withstanding increased loads when performing various maneuvers.
Main features of Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3
- designed for installation on light trucks during the winter period;
- differs in protection against cuts and punctures due to reinforced arming;
- provides improved braking characteristics due to the increased number of gripping edges;
- an arrow-shaped tread pattern with numerous lamellae provides quick cleaning of the contact area.

I read your reviews before buying the tires. I drove for 3 years on Michelin X-Ice North SUV, the tread has worn out significantly, especially in the center, and 20% of the studs are gone. I think it's time to replace them.
I decided to install Nokian Hakkapeliita LT3 this year, and I've driven about 500 km so far. It definitely makes more noise, but the car's sound insulation saves the day, however, with the window open, it's noticeably louder. I didn't notice any difference on asphalt. I haven't tried it in deep snow yet.
But what surprised me was that the new Nokian turned out to be worse on ice and packed snow than my 3-year-old Michelin. Every day I drive down an icy hill, and where I used to drive down normally on my old Michelin, the new Nokian just slides and scratches the ice.
Furthermore, I was disappointed when I was thrown from side to side in an icy courtyard rut, something that never happened on the Michelin - I just drove through calmly. On the Hakkapeliita LT3, the car simply slides from one side of the rut to the other.
I tried different tire pressures from 2.1 to 2.4, but nothing helps. It's really scary to drive on this tire in winter conditions.
Maybe people who write positive reviews have only driven on all-terrain tires in winter before, and this tire seems good to them, but I will likely replace the Nokian with Michelin or Bridgestone next winter.

This was the only studded tire in size 33 in 2021. I had a hard time finding a set in the store. I have no complaints about the tires themselves. I constantly drive on them both on asphalt and off-road, lowered to 0.5-0.7, it holds perfectly. The tire is soft. It rides as it should. I didn't notice any noise, after the summer MT it even became quieter ))

Considering this winter was not very harsh, I cannot give a full review. For example, I didn't have a chance to check how the tire performs in a deep snow. Overall, I'm pleased with the tire. The new tread, relatively deep tread depth, the new side wall with the new siping (feels like the Rockproof, but thinner) and the tire fights until the end to get the car back on the road when it starts to slide. In most cases, it succeeds
