Like all other representatives of this line, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 SUV winter tire is designed for regions located north of the Arctic Circle. It is installed on crossovers and SUVs. It is characterized by excellent traction on any winter roads, ease of handling, reduced noise and vibration levels.
Two types of studs
One of the innovations of the tire is the use of two types of studs, differing from each other in the direction of the edges of the star-shaped carbide insert, which directly contacts the road surface. In the shoulder areas, they are rotated by 180 degrees. This allowed to increase the coupling properties when maneuvering on icy surfaces. In the central part, the edges of the stud insert are arranged transversely, which increases the traction force and braking intensity.
Eco Stud 10 technology
The effectiveness of the studs is also ensured by the special structure of the tire's tread. It has a two-layer structure, the lower "base" layer of which has an increased width. It is here that the stud flange is fixed, and under it is a special air "cushion". This solution, on the one hand, limits the mobility of the steel element and increases the force of its fixation in the tread, and on the other hand, reduces the load on it, reducing the likelihood of its falling out, as well as the level of noise and vibration when driving.
Aramid fibers in the sidewalls
Some of the solutions used in this tire were "borrowed" from other models of the Finnish manufacturer. First of all, this is aramid fiber, a lightweight synthetic material integrated into the compound structure. Such a rubber mixture has increased resistance to impact and resulting cracks, as well as contact with sharp solid objects, such as the edges of potholes and curbs.
Updated rubber compound
Since the tire is a flagship model, it uses a rubber compound with advanced developments. In this case, the composition of the compound was "diversified" with pine extract and rapeseed oil, the share of which is 30%. These components reduce rolling resistance, increasing the durability of the tread to abrasive wear, punctures and cuts.
