The use of advanced technologies and the latest materials in its design allowed the specialists of the South Korean brand to give it a whole range of beneficial advantages, from excellent traction on ice to a long service life.
Good handling in any conditions
A significant part of the time spent on developing this model was spent on ensuring its stable and predictable handling. To do this, the specialists of the South Korean brand used a whole complex of measures. Most of the innovations fell on the breaker design, in which an additional synthetic cord appeared. This gave it additional stiffness and resistance to deformation under the influence of centrifugal acceleration forces. In real operating conditions, such a "substrate" located directly under the tread significantly improves handling, giving the traction properties stability and reliability, despite the continuous change in road surface characteristics and weather conditions.
The second factor that determines the stable and reliable behavior of this tire is the optimized profile shape of the tread. It has such a curvature that the contact patch area is maximum, and its size and shape are practically not subject to changes, remaining unchanged even when maneuvering and turning.
High performance when braking on slippery roads
A characteristic feature of the tread pattern, in addition to its V-shaped design, is the increased number of traction edges, which amounts to several thousand. The overwhelming majority of them are formed by special lamellas located at small angles to the direction of movement, or even perpendicular to it. This significantly improves the effectiveness of the tread when accelerating longitudinally, for example, when braking. At the same time, it is impossible not to note the three-dimensional structure of the lamella walls. This feature not only prevents them from closing under the influence of the car's weight, but also limits the mobility of the blocks, which increases its stiffness. Increased number of spikes
The studding system used in this model is largely the result of recently introduced requirements for winter tires in European countries, aimed at reducing their negative impact on the road surface. To bring the tire into compliance with them, the developers reduced the size of the spikes, while increasing their number by approximately twice compared to their predecessors. Additionally, the efficiency of their work was improved due to the optimized scheme of arrangement of these steel elements on the tread. They are placed on it in such a way that when moving, they form 20 continuous rows. At the same time, the maximum number of spikes comes into contact with the road surface. In combination with several thousand lamellas, this allows the tire to demonstrate very stable traction properties on rolled snow and ice.
Reduced noise level
Despite the increased number of spikes and traction edges, the Nexen Winguard WinSpike WH62 tire has a relatively low noise level when driving. To achieve this, the developers also used several technical solutions. One of them is the use of special shock absorbers in the places where the spikes are installed, which are located in such a way that the number of noises and vibrations generated by them is minimal. The design of the tread pattern itself also has a similar functional feature, characterized by a multi-step arrangement of blocks.
Combination of effective appearance and efficiency on any winter roads
A significant part of the effective appearance of this tire is ensured by the original design of the central part of its tread. Despite the presence of a large number of individual blocks, it, due to the numerous bridges between them, represents a very wide longitudinal rib. As a result, when driving, the center of the tread works as a single whole, improving not one, but immediately several operational characteristics. First of all, this is excellent directional stability and increased longitudinal traction on snow. In addition, such a design significantly reduces rolling resistance and noise level.
Multifunctional V-shaped drainage grooves

This technical solution provides the tire with even higher resistance to aquaplaning, and due to its large width, it is able to divert heavy masses of meltwater from the contact patch.
