The winter tire Nexen Winguard Sport 2 SUV is designed for crossovers and SUVs. It belongs to the so-called "friction" models, perfectly suited for use on any slippery surfaces. In such conditions, it is characterized by stable traction and precision handling, and boasts excellent fuel efficiency for its class.
The tread compound is made from a rubber mixture with a rather unusual composition. In particular, it includes palm oil. It additionally increases elasticity at low temperatures, tear resistance, and tensile strength. In addition to palm oil, the compound contains silica and natural rubber, which improves traction on packed snow and ice, reduces rolling resistance, and abrasive wear.
The tread pattern is filled with narrow zigzag-like grooves. They significantly improve longitudinal traction on slippery surfaces. At the same time, the "three-dimensionality" of their profile limits the mobility of the tread elements, which increases directional stability and precision handling.
The transverse rows of blocks are arranged with an offset relative to each other. This increases the evenness of load distribution across the contact patch, allowing more elements to be placed on the tread. As a result, its useful area increases, the level of abrasive impact on the tire decreases, and the traction properties not only become stronger but also more stable, while the level of resonant noise and vibration is reduced.
