Description Michelin XDW Ice Grip
The Michelin XDW Ice Grip winter tire is a highly attractive option for solving traction problems with the drive wheels of highway tractors in winter. This model differs from its "summer" counterparts, first and foremost, in its original tread pattern design, characterized by the presence of several thousand traction edges. It is these that allow for very confident movement on roads not cleared of snow.
Compromise tread design
When creating this tire, French specialists sought to give it maximum traction properties without compromising other very important operational qualities. This is why there are many solutions, the drawbacks of which are offset by another design feature. A striking example of this approach is the tread pattern. It is characterized by a large number of traction edges formed not only by a multitude of small blocks but also by numerous slits cut into them.
In the central part, there are longitudinal rectangular blocks that form two 2-row ribs. To limit the mobility of individual elements, all of them are connected to each other by rigid wide bridges. This solution simultaneously allowed maximizing the number of traction edges and improving the stability and stability of the tire during acceleration and braking.
The blocks in the shoulder zones have a similar "modular" design. Their outer rigid part optimizes the distribution of external pressure over the contact patch, and the inner part with numerous slits increases the longitudinal traction properties.
Main features of Michelin XDW Ice Grip
- several thousand slits improve traction properties on ice and snow;
- rigid bridges between blocks in the central part increase stability and stability during acceleration and braking;
- the "modular" design of the blocks in the shoulder zones prevents uneven wear, increases carrying capacity, and improves handling during maneuvering and turns.
