The Michelin Primacy MXV4 passenger tire is designed exclusively for the North American market. The manufacturer positions this model as a tire for luxury-class passenger cars. The offered range of sizes includes 32 options for wheels with a mounting diameter of 15 to 18 inches. Depending on the diameter, the speed index can be H or V, which speaks to the quite impressive capabilities of this model.
Unique tread pattern design
The key feature of the tread pattern of this model was the Advanced MaxTouch Construction technology, which involves the maximum saturation of the tread with sharp edges. That's why the tread pattern contains a huge number of small individual blocks that form five longitudinal ribs, counting from the shoulder areas of the tread. The use of an S-shaped tread design was due to the desire to reduce rolling resistance, and with it, fuel consumption. In addition, such a arrangement of tread elements had a very favorable effect on other important operational characteristics - the level of noise and resistance to uneven wear.
In the central part of the tread, the Michelin Primacy MXV4 has a technical solution borrowed from sports tires. We are talking about a double central rib. Thanks to it, the tire demonstrates not only excellent directional stability but also lightning-fast reactions to steering wheel turns, which has brought a sporty character to the handling.
The two longitudinal ribs located nearby represent separate rows of small blocks, the long edges of which are directed at a fairly sharp angle relative to the axis of rotation of the wheel. This solution is dictated by the desire to provide high acceleration efficiency, especially on slippery snowy surfaces.
The shoulder areas of the tread also represent two separate rows of blocks. However, in this case, their edges are strictly perpendicular to the direction of movement. This made it possible to give the braking maximum efficiency, as a result of which the tire demonstrates a short braking distance even on a slippery road.
Exceptional efficiency on wet roads
This model is distinguished by excellent performance in rainy conditions. This was achieved thanks to a carefully selected composition of the rubber mixture and a high-performance drainage system. The rubber mixture of this tire has an increased content of silicon-containing elements. This made it possible to give the tread excellent elasticity, which is preserved even at low temperatures, due to which it became more tightly fitted to all irregularities on the surface of the road. At the same time, increased elasticity did not become the cause of reduced wear resistance, but on the contrary, led to an improvement in resistance to abrasive wear. The second component, namely the drainage system, is distinguished by an increased density of longitudinal and transverse channels that literally permeate the entire tread. At the same time, the French tire engineers managed to additionally increase the efficiency of the drainage system by placing wavy lamellas on the surface of each tread block. These elements, when in contact with a wet surface, like car windshield wipers, "swipe" excess moisture from the contact patch, thereby increasing traction.
