The Michelin Primacy 3 Vol summer tire is a versatile city model suitable for most modern passenger cars. Among its many strong points, balance is particularly noteworthy. I.e., the tire has no obvious "weak spots", as all consumer and operational properties are at least as good as those of competitors, and often noticeably surpass them.
Continuous control over the vehicle
One of the main advantages of the tire is that it creates a feeling of reliable control over the vehicle even in the most difficult situations, such as braking or maneuvering. This feature is ensured by several original solutions applied by French tire manufacturers when creating the tread pattern. In particular, all numerous blocks have beveled transverse edges. When subjected to transverse acceleration forces, this allows the contact patch size to be significantly increased, which minimizes the risk of loss of traction when starting, accelerating, and, of course, braking.
In addition, the tire's tread contains many self-locking lamellas. These elements are multifunctional. In addition to enhancing the traction properties on a wet surface, they limit the mobility of the blocks, which allows the contact patch to maintain its shape and size while being subjected to deforming influences. Thanks to this, the effectiveness of the tread's work is noticeably increased. For example, the braking distance in rainy conditions is reduced by one and a half meters compared to the previous model.
Long service life and low fuel consumption
This tire was one of the first models of the French brand to use a rubber compound with several elastomers. The use of these components, in particular, made it possible to increase the content of "silica", the share of which in the compound exceeds two-thirds. This significantly improved the tread's ability to tightly envelop the irregularities on the road surface, especially at low temperatures. The practical result was a significant improvement in traction properties, primarily when slowing down, which is most clearly manifested on a wet road.
In addition, the addition of elastomers to the composition made it possible to improve the strength of the rubber compound to ruptures and stretching. This guarantees the integrity of the tread when driving at high speeds. Also, the updated compound is characterized by increased resistance to wear and reduced rolling resistance, which, on the one hand, increases the mileage before replacement, and on the other hand, reduces fuel consumption.
Main features of Michelin Primacy 3 Vol
- beveled block edges increase the contact patch during transverse accelerations, improving traction properties, especially when braking and accelerating;
- self-locking lamellas provide the contact patch with additional edges, and by limiting the mobility of the blocks, improve handling;
- a developed drainage system containing many longitudinal and transverse grooves prevents aquaplaning even at high speeds;
- special elastomers in the compound ensure the tread's integrity during high-speed driving, protect it from premature wear, enhance traction on low-temperature surfaces, and also reduce fuel consumption.
