The summer tire Michelin Primacy 3 SelfSeal is a modified version of the same urban model. The key difference is increased reliability due to some design changes.
SelfSeal
The main difference of this model is the SelfSeal technology used in its creation, which is reflected in its name. The essence of the innovation lies in the ability of the tread to eliminate mechanical damage on its own. This is ensured by the physical properties of natural rubber, on the basis of which a special sealant was created. This refers to the ability of this natural material to fill cavities and voids. The sealant is used in the tire design as needed, i.e. when damage appears. Its effectiveness is quite high. The French manufacturer claims that such a sealant can seal through-holes with a diameter of up to 6 mm. At the same time, it is worth noting that this solution does not introduce negative changes in the wheel balance, which cannot be said about sealants poured inside the tire.
Beveled Blocks
The next important feature of the tire is the blocks with beveled edges. This solution provides the contact patch with sizes that do not change under the influence of longitudinal acceleration forces on the tread. They occur when starting to move, gaining speed, and braking. And in all these modes, the tire demonstrates high coupling properties, as well as very stable and reliable behavior.
Multifunctional Lamellae
The tread of this model is equipped with a multitude of lamellae. They perform several tasks at once. The main one is the formation of additional coupling edges. In addition, these elements, due to their dense fixation in the open position, limit the mobility of the blocks in the transverse direction. This feature improves the tire's resistance to lateral skidding, and also gives its reactions to steering wheel turns even more speed and accuracy.
Optimized Tread Profile
In addition to constancy under the influence of multidirectional acceleration forces, the contact patch is beneficially distinguished by its large size. They are achieved due to the optimized shape of the tread profile. At the same time, it is selected in such a way that the size of the contact patch will be maximum in any mode of movement. In addition, its shape is close to square, which further reduces the specific pressure on the road surface, while distributing the load very evenly. This noticeably improves handling, giving the tire's behavior predictability, and also reduces the risk of uneven wear.
Main Features of the Michelin Primacy 3 SelfSeal Model
- A special sealant integrated into the tire design provides sealing of through-holes and other mechanical damage with a diameter of up to 6 mm;
- Blocks with beveled edges enhance coupling properties, especially when braking and accelerating;
- Special lamellae increase the transverse stiffness of the blocks, which improves handling and resistance to skidding when maneuvering and cornering;
- The optimized tread profile increases the area of the contact patch, gives it a square shape, which improves coupling and handling, reduces the risk of uneven wear.
