The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 summer tire is used on the most dynamic modifications of medium-sized passenger cars. It is characterized by efficiency on wet coverage, a high level of ride and acoustic comfort for its category.
Helio+ Rubber Compound
The tread of the tire is made from the Helio+ compound. Its components include sunflower oil, which enhances tear and tensile strength. Silica combined with special polymeric compounds provides the tread with elasticity at low ambient temperatures and resistance to abrasive wear.
"Variable" Contact Area
For its class, the tire has an exceptionally long service life. This is largely due to the use of Variable Contact Patch technology. Here, the third version of this set of solutions is used. Certain changes in the design of the carcass and breaker, optimization of the tread profile and pattern of its tread, have made it possible to increase the changes in the contact area with the road surface, giving it a shape close to square. The load from the weight of the car is distributed evenly, and its configuration does not change regardless of the degree of impact and direction of acceleration forces. As a result, the traction properties are enhanced and remain stable in any road conditions.
Lamellae with Variable Length
The tread of the tire contains a large number of lamellae. Narrow slits further enhance longitudinal traction on wet surfaces. As the tread pattern wears, their length becomes greater. This solution compensates for the loss of traction properties on wet surfaces due to the reduction in the depth of the drainage grooves, thereby maintaining the effectiveness of the tread at high mileage.
Low Risk of Aquaplaning
The tread pattern is distinguished by an increased number of drainage grooves. The most important of these are longitudinally arranged elements with a large internal volume, thanks to which the tire demonstrates a low tendency to aquaplaning. Transverse grooves have a significant length and a curved shape, preventing the occurrence of swirls in the water flow passing through them. All these features significantly reduce the likelihood of aquaplaning.
Main Features:
- Helio+ rubber compound with ultra-high silica content and sunflower oil provides stable traction on wet surfaces, reduces wear and rolling resistance;
- asymmetric tread pattern with many small blocks on the inside provides high traction force;
- lamellae with increasing length as the tread wears maintain the tire's efficiency on wet surfaces at high mileage.
