The Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 winter non-studded passenger tire, like other representatives of the Alpin model line, was developed specifically for European winters, which are characterized by frequent fluctuations in temperatures around zero. This model has the Pilot prefix in its name, meaning that the tire is intended, first and foremost, for powerful and high-speed passenger vehicles. The high technical characteristics of this winter model are indicated by the assigned speed indices - H, V, and W.
This model is equipped with a V-shaped symmetrical directional tread pattern, which is most effective when driving on wet, snowy, and icy roads. The central part of the tread of the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 tire is occupied by two rows of blocks, forming a kind of solid longitudinal rib. Due to this solution, it was possible to achieve excellent directional stability when driving at any speed. Additionally, the central part of the tread features two very wide longitudinal grooves that can accommodate a significant amount of water and snow, which substantially improves traction on wet and snowy surfaces.
Another distinctive feature of the tread of this tire is the increased number of lamellas. Thanks to this, it was possible to additionally obtain a multitude of sharp edges of traction, the transverse arrangement of which ensures high braking efficiency, especially on slippery surfaces.
One of the pleasant additions was a special design of the tire's sidewalls, which provides a place for notes on the location of the tires for rearranging them in the next winter season.
Key features of the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 winter tire
- The improved V-shaped design of the symmetrical directional tread pattern allowed for an increase in the contact patch area, which improved the tire's basic characteristics;
- The rigid construction of the shoulder areas of the tread in combination with a small radius of their profile provided an elliptical shape of the contact patch, which improved the tire's resistance to aquaplaning;
- The new rubber compound has the ability to adapt to changes in the characteristics of the road surface, ensuring optimal traction in any conditions;
- The multitude of transversely arranged lamellas significantly improved the traction characteristics, especially on snow and ice.
