The winter non-studded tire Michelin Maxi Ice is somewhat iconic for the French tire giant. Many technologies that were tested on it were used on most of the subsequent winter models. Many of them are still applied by the French manufacturer to this day.

Two wide longitudinal ribs in the center

One of the main features of the tread design of this tire is the structure of its central part. It contains two very wide longitudinal ribs, each of which, due to the absence of breaks throughout its length, has very high rigidity. This makes itself felt on asphalt, where this tire demonstrates abilities not typical of winter models. The tread pattern of this model is distinguished by a high content of gripping edges. The overwhelming majority of them are formed not by blocks, but by numerous lamellae cut into them. Their total number exceeds several thousand, and all of them are located at different angles crosswise relative to the direction of movement. This gives the tire excellent longitudinal traction properties, especially on slippery surfaces.
