The Michelin Latitude Tour summer tire has a rather specific scope of application. This model was designed for SUVs and crossovers that are used exclusively on paved roads. It is in these conditions that this tire demonstrates the lion's share of its advantages.
Terrain-Proof Compound
A special rubber compound was developed for this model. Due to the scale of innovations, it even received its own name - Terrain-Proof. The strongest sides of this compound are increased resistance to abrasive and uneven wear, which significantly increases the life of the tire. In addition, this rubber compound is distinguished by high resistance to cracking. This ensures the integrity of the tread when exposed to high temperatures.
Interlocking Lames
This model was one of the first summer tires from Michelin, where the StabiliGrip tread lamination technology was applied. Its essence lies in the shape of the lamella walls with protrusions. When in contact with the road surface, they are tightly fixed to each other due to the protrusions, which, in turn, significantly reduces the transverse mobility of the tread blocks, thereby improving the directional stability and maneuverability.
Rigid Breaker
Aiming to achieve perfect balance between all operational properties, the French tire manufacturers applied an unconventional solution. They intentionally made the frame elastic, which gave the tire exceptional softness on the go. At the same time, an additional breaker layer appeared directly under the tread. In conjunction with the rigid tread, this made it possible to ensure the constancy of the shape and size of the contact patch, which had a positive effect on handling, making it more predictable and reliable.
Main Features of the Michelin Latitude Tour Model
- The rubber compound, developed specifically for this tire, provides increased resistance to wear and tear, as well as the integrity of the tread when exposed to high temperatures;
- Interlocking lames improve handling and directional stability;
- The additional breaker layer, rigid tread, and elastic frame, on the one hand, improve handling and maneuverability, and on the other hand, make the tire's ride softer and more comfortable.
