The Michelin Latitude Alpin 2 (Porsche) winter tire is installed on the most dynamic versions of medium and large-sized crossovers and SUVs. It is recommended by the manufacturer for use in specific conditions of so-called "warm" winters. It is most effective on wet roads and surfaces covered with melting snow. In such conditions, it demonstrates excellent traction properties, sports handling, and a long service life.
The tread part of the tire is made of a Helio Compound rubber mixture of the 3rd iteration. A distinctive feature of this compound is the use of the latest polymer compounds that give the tire the ability to closely fit even the smallest irregularities on the road surface at the molecular level. This ability is preserved even at negative temperatures. As a result, the tire remains very sticky, both on wet roads and on rolled-out snow with a mirror-like sheen.
Compared to the previous model, this tire has significantly improved its braking efficiency on wet surfaces. This is due to a significant increase, approximately by a quarter, in the number of lamellas. Almost all the slots have a sinusoidal shape, which additionally lengthens the edges formed by them. The lamellas are located at a slight angle across, which not only enhances the longitudinal traction properties but also makes them noticeably more stable.
The drainage grooves have a V-shaped arrangement and increased dimensions. This solution allows the tread to intensively divert water and its heavy mixture with melting snow and road dirt from the contact patch. As a result, the resistance to aquaplaning and slushplaning increases.
