The Michelin Energy LX4 passenger tire was initially designed for the North American market, where it is considered suitable for summer use. The offered range of sizes unequivocally hints at the primary audience of this model - owners of mid-range passenger cars and minivans. The size range implies installation on wheels with a mounting diameter from 15 to 17 inches, which speaks to the excellent applicability of this model.
Comfort Control Technology
One of the characteristic features of this tire is its exceptionally high riding comfort, combining almost complete absence of resonant noise and vibrations, as well as an unusually soft ride. This was achieved thanks to the use of a whole range of latest developments. In particular, during the development of this model, computerized simulation systems were widely used, which allowed to avoid millions of kilometers of natural tests. This made it possible to select the optimal scheme for the location of the tread blocks. Another innovation was an additional tread layer with increased elasticity, which made it possible to eliminate vibrations from micro-roughness on the road surface.
Maximum Contact Patch Area
As you know, previous tire models with the Energy prefix in their name were not too good at grip. In the Michelin Energy LX4 tire, the specialists of the French tire giant managed to almost completely get rid of this drawback by applying the MaxTouch Construction technology. It represents a whole complex of original technological solutions aimed at maximizing the size of the contact patch. As part of this technology, the carcass construction, tread pattern, and rubber compound underwent serious revision. The carcass received an additional breaker layer extending to the sidewalls, which made it possible to significantly increase the tire's resistance to dynamic deformation. During the production of the tread, a two-layer rubber compound was used, i.e., it became two-layered. The surface layer, having increased elasticity, began to more closely fit the roughness on the road surface, which significantly increased the size of the contact patch.
Excellent Efficiency on Wet Roads
Seeking to provide the tire with worthy operational characteristics on wet roads, the French tire manufacturers equipped it with an incredibly efficient drainage system. It consists of four large-volume longitudinal grooves and numerous transverse channels through which water is discharged outward. An effective addition is the numerous wavy and straight lamellas, which, when in contact with a water-covered road, work on the same principle as car windshield wipers.
Excellent Fuel Efficiency
It would be surprising if this energy-efficient tire did not have record-breaking fuel efficiency indicators. To achieve them, the company's specialists did meticulous work. The changes mainly affected the carcass construction, which became significantly lighter, as well as the composition of the rubber compound, to which special components were added that reduced rolling resistance.
