In the Michelin Energy LX4 tire, the specialists of the French tire giant managed to almost completely get rid of this drawback by applying the MaxTouch Construction technology. It represents a whole complex of original technological solutions aimed at maximizing the size of the contact patch. As part of this technology, the carcass construction, tread pattern, and rubber compound underwent serious revision. The carcass received an additional breaker layer extending to the sidewalls, which made it possible to significantly increase the tire's resistance to dynamic deformation. During the production of the tread, a two-layer rubber compound was used, i.e., it became two-layered. The surface layer, having increased elasticity, began to more closely fit the roughness on the road surface, which significantly increased the size of the contact patch.
Excellent Efficiency on Wet Roads
Seeking to provide the tire with worthy operational characteristics on wet roads, the French tire manufacturers equipped it with an incredibly efficient drainage system. It consists of four large-volume longitudinal grooves and numerous transverse channels through which water is discharged outward. An effective addition is the numerous wavy and straight lamellas, which, when in contact with a water-covered road, work on the same principle as car windshield wipers.
