Description Michelin Arctic Alpin
The Michelin Arctic Alpin winter tire for passenger cars belongs to the so-called "friction" models. Without studs, it is distinguished by its ability to maintain stable traction on icy surfaces, along with comfort when driving on wet and snowy roads, fuel efficiency, and a long service life.
The tread pattern is a combination of three solid longitudinal ribs in the central part and massive blocks in the shoulder areas. This design improves directional stability at high speeds, reducing wear and rolling resistance. Another feature of the pattern is the design of the drainage grooves. The elements have a large width and stepped walls, which allows them to capture and hold snow in the tread, thereby improving traction on snowy roads, along with high water evacuation intensity from under the tire. However, the key feature of the pattern is the 3D lamellas. Narrow slits with elongated curved edges are located a few millimeters apart, providing a contact patch with a large number of sharp edges. The "three-dimensional" profile of their walls not only fixes them in the open position when in contact with the road surface but also increases the stiffness of the blocks, making them very resistant to deformation. As a result, on icy roads, traction not only increases but also becomes quite stable, making it easier to control the intensity of traction and braking. It is worth noting that the effectiveness of the lamellas directly depends on the characteristics of the rubber compound used here. It is distinguished by its ability to maintain elasticity at an optimal level at very low temperatures, while remaining resistant not only to wear but also to the formation of cracks and tears in the tread structure.
Key features of Michelin Arctic Alpin:
- a tread pattern with three wide longitudinal ribs in the central part provides excellent stability at high speeds, along with reduced rolling resistance and wear resistance;
- high lamella density provides the ability to accelerate and brake intensively on icy surfaces;
- a special rubber compound that maintains optimal elasticity at low temperatures enhances traction on any winter surface;
- an optimized drainage groove design improves traction in adverse weather conditions
