Michelin Alpin A3 Winter Tires

The Michelin Alpin A3 winter tire, produced by one of the world's leading manufacturers, was specifically designed for compact passenger vehicles. The tire is ideal for warm winter conditions, where freezes often alternate with thaws and vice versa. The key feature of this model is the increased number of lamellas compared to competitors, which are made using the company's proprietary BDS technology. The essence of this technology lies in the Z-shaped form of the lamellas and their bidirectionality. This effect was achieved thanks to the wavy construction of the lamellas throughout the tread depth. At the same time, the edges of these lamellas provide additional traction and improve directional stability when driving on slippery surfaces.

The design of the V-shaped symmetrical directional tread pattern includes five ribs, three of which are located in the central part of the tread, and the remaining two are in the shoulder areas of the tread. The longitudinal rib in the center of the tread features high structural rigidity. This allowed for improved directional stability without reducing the likelihood of uneven wear.

The shoulder areas of the Michelin Alpin A3 tread were also designed with winter operation in mind. They consist of two rows of separate, massive blocks. When overcoming snow drifts, these blocks work like off-road tires' lugs, providing confident behavior on complex terrain.

Another feature of this tire is the rubber compound, which, in addition to high-quality natural rubber, includes sunflower oil. Only with the help of this component was it possible to improve the effectiveness of braking and resistance to lateral accelerations. Furthermore, the inclusion of sunflower oil in the rubber compound allowed for reduced rolling resistance.
