Maxxis AT-980E Worm-Drive
Tire specifications
DescriptionDescription Maxxis AT-980E Worm-Drive
The scope of application of the summer tire Maxxis AT-980E Worm-Drive is off-road vehicles and pickups that are used by their owners both on the highway and off-road. The model is distinguished by its versatility, demonstrating high performance on any surface.
Tread design optimized for any surface
The efficiency of the tire both on the highway and beyond is largely due to the features of the tread pattern design. The key one is the presence of a large number of blocks. They have a complex polygonal shape and are arranged at an angle to the direction of movement. As a result, reliable traction is ensured, both on asphalt and on dirt. The blocks provide the contact patch with traction faces of significant length and height. This allows the tire to effectively grip any surface. This property is further enhanced off-road by the large distance between the blocks in the shoulder zones, which work in such conditions as full-fledged mud grips.
Special rubber compound
The composition of the compound was selected based on the characteristics of the use of off-road vehicles and pickups off public roads. Thanks to this, the tread is distinguished by high stiffness and mechanical strength. This minimizes the risk of tire damage off-road, and also improves its resistance to wear.
Reinforced carcass
The carcass was also designed taking into account the application of the tire, primarily off-road. Its elements, which are most susceptible to mechanical stress, have been significantly strengthened. Additional steel cords have appeared in the breaker and sidewalls. The latter, in turn, have a stiffness that provides protection against damage to both the tire and the suspension components of the vehicle with a large margin.
Key features of the Maxxis AT-980E Worm-Drive tire
- a universal model for off-road vehicles and pickups, equally suitable for highways and dirt roads;
- a symmetrical tread with massive blocks - bidirectional in the central part and high in the shoulder areas;
- a rubber compound resistant to punctures, cuts, and wear;
- a carcass with reinforced sidewalls and a breaker provides high reliability off-road.

This tire was bought as a replacement for MT as I mainly drive on asphalt.
First impressions:
1. Softer than BF Goodrich
2. Worthy tread pattern
3. Weakened sidewall
4. Balances perfectly at 60g per wheel
It grips very well for a street tire.Now, about the huge minus:
1. New tire tread depth at the center - 12.3 mm
2. 3500 km – tread depth - 10.- Vehicle:
- Mitsubishi L200

When purchasing, they were very well balanced.
For the size 285/60/18 - 90 grams is normal.
After about 500 km, rebalancing was done, with minor deviations - and everything was ready for operation.
After about 1,000 km, noise started, and this is the first tire out of several AT tires that makes so much noise. But okay, a premium noise-reducing system is installed on the car - let others suffer.
After another 5,000 km, I noticed abnormal wear. The total mileage is just over 6,000 km, and about 25% of the tread is already gone!!!
What is this? I won't say for other cars, but it seems that for a cruiser, this tire is not suitable, it's too heavy for it. Although when I bought it, I took the LT version specifically!
During operation, I drove on dirt and mountains. It drives well, and it also cleans well.
BUT THE WEAR! For that kind of money!
In short, I definitely do not recommend it for cruisers.- Vehicle:

Hello everyone, I've traveled about 2000 km on this tire and I think it's enough to leave my review. I switched to AT Maxxis Worm-Drive 265/70 R16 with MT Comforser CF3000 265/75 R16, and my review will be about its performance in winter conditions. I'm from western Siberia, and the temperature range is from -10 to -35 (I don't drive in even colder temperatures), with frozen asphalt, icy
