The winter tire Kumho Wintercraft SUV Ice WS31 was developed based on the model with the index Wi31. All the differences are due to the fact that this tire is designed for SUVs and crossovers. The most significant of these are the reinforced carcass and increased contact patch size.
This model was developed taking into account the features of winter road surfaces in Scandinavian countries and Russia. For such conditions, the V-shaped tread is ideal. Its version from the South Korean tire makers is distinguished by the presence of rigid bridges between all the blocks. At the same time, they are arranged in such a way that when in contact, they form very long transverse traction edges that stretch across the entire tread. This feature provides excellent performance during longitudinal acceleration on snow.
In turn, the traction properties on ice are provided by several thousand lamellas. Their design is quite original. In a vertical section, the shape of their walls has a structure similar to honeycombs. The numerous protrusions fix the lamellas so tightly in the open position when in contact with the road that the block remains very rigid. This has a positive effect on handling when driving on smooth and even surfaces.
It is also worth noting the possibility of installing studs. The places for this are arranged in such a way that most of the 20 rows are located in the central part of the tread. This additionally increases the performance of the studs on ice.
