When developing the Ikon Character Ice C2, engineers were guided by the tough equation of commercial operation. For vans and light trucks that change their load daily, the shift in the center of gravity becomes a critical factor. That's why the focus was on three interrelated vectors: maximum contact patch on any winter surface, predictable behavior during maneuvers, and increased mileage compared to previous generation models.
Studded architecture
Model is equipped with a reinforced studded tread pattern, where each steel element is integrated into a massive block with an optimized geometry of the mounting socket. In the tyre, the number and arrangement of studs have been revised compared to the previous version, achieving a 15% increase in the contact area of the stud with the icy surface without compromising traction on asphalt. This design provides:
- reduction of stopping distance on icy sections by 10–12%;
- stable traction when starting uphill on packed snow;
- minimal loss of tyre studs at high speeds thanks to the reinforced base and a special polymer adhesive layer in the stud pockets.
Chaotic geometry against clogging
The central zone of the tread features interrupted and asymmetrical grooves that form a complex drainage network. Unlike ordered patterns, the elements here are arranged with a variable pitch and different orientation. This provides three key benefits:
- intense pressure on snow slush — sharp edges of blocks literally "bite" into the loose cover, actively pushing snow and dirt out of the grooves. Self-cleaning occurs faster, which prevents the tread from "clogging".
- reduction of hydroplaning;
- improved directional stability — the wavy pattern of longitudinal grooves work as stabilizing elements, reducing drift during lane changes.
Wear management at the molecular level
The rubber compound is based on Ikon Tyres' patented technology, which allows for controlled distribution of polymer chains and fillers. This ensures:
- uniform density throughout the tread volume — eliminates local areas of increased friction, which become the points of crack initiation and accelerated wear;
- retention of elasticity at low temperatures thanks to optimized silica content;
- resistance to abrasive wear — the tread life has increased by 12% compared to the previous model.
