The Hifly Snow Grip winter tire, although released by a Chinese manufacturer, is closer to models of European brands in terms of its operational properties. At the same time, its cost is significantly lower.
Double arrow-shaped rib in the center
When developing the design of the tread pattern, Chinese tire manufacturers were guided by the experience of their European colleagues. One of the results of this approach was the appearance in the central part of a longitudinal rib with a number of characteristic features. One of them is the arrow-shaped form of the element, which creates a multitude of additional edges. Those that are located at an angle improve directional stability and prevent lateral skidding, while transverse ones provide more reliable traction when starting and gaining speed. In addition, the central rib is divided into two equal parts by a drainage groove. This solution allowed to increase the accuracy of control, reduce rolling resistance and susceptibility to tread wear.
Several types of lamellas
The tire tread has several types of lamellas. In the central part, the slots are straight and directed at an angle. This improves directional stability and longitudinal traction properties on icy surfaces. The straight walls of these elements provide the tire with a softer ride and smoother reactions to steering wheel turns.
On the edges of the tread, there are wavy lamellas. Such elements increase the tire's traction in the longitudinal direction. The effectiveness of their work is significantly improved due to the use of special reinforcements that increase the opening angle of the lamellas. In addition, due to their wavy shape, they limit the mobility of blocks during lateral accelerations, which has a positive effect on handling when maneuvering and cornering.
Universal drainage grooves
One of the key features of the tread design is the drainage grooves. Most of them have a functionality that is not limited to just cleaning the contact patch from water and its mixture with snow and dirt. Such grooves, in particular, are located in the shoulder areas. At their intersection points, the tread has the ability to capture snow from the road surface, creating a "wafer effect" that significantly improves traction on snowy surfaces.
Possibility of installing studs
This model is offered by the Chinese manufacturer without studs. Nevertheless, the developers provided places for their installation. The stud arrangement scheme involves forming up to 6 continuous rows of them - three on each side. This significantly increases the effectiveness of the steel elements, which further enhances traction on icy surfaces.
Main features of the Hifly Snow grip tire
- the double rib in the center, due to its arrow-shaped form, improves directional stability, reduces rolling resistance and susceptibility to tread wear;
- straight lamellas in the inner part of the tread improve resistance to aquaplaning, traction on icy surfaces, and give the tire smoother reactions to steering wheel turns;
- wavy lamellas in the outer parts of the tread with reinforcements reduce the braking distance, increase the effectiveness of the tread when starting and gaining speed;
- universal grooves in the shoulder areas clean the contact patch from water and its mixture with snow, and also create a "wafer effect" that enhances traction on snowy roads.
