The Hankook W452 Winter i*cept RS2 winter tire was developed for the markets of Central and Western European countries. It differs from the previous model with a "from scratch" designed tread pattern, a modified carcass structure, and a rubber compound composition.
Increased number of gripping edges
Externally, the tire differs from its predecessor by an increased number of gripping edges. This is noticeable to the naked eye, as their number has increased by 28%. The increase was achieved due to a reduction in the size of the tread blocks. However, the contact patch area has also increased by approximately 5% due to the optimized arrangement of the tread blocks. The ultimate result of all these changes was a significantly improved grip on wet asphalt and snow.
Aqua-planing resistant tread
As before, the tire features a V-shaped tread pattern. However, the number of drainage grooves has increased significantly, and they are now angled at a much sharper angle, accelerating the water drainage process. Additionally, the grooves feature special notches - so-called "3D claws". These miniature elements improve traction on icy surfaces.
3D lamellas
The "three-dimensional" design is also characteristic of the numerous lamellas. The protrusions on the walls, located in all three planes, fix the slits in the open position when in contact with the road surface and simultaneously limit the mobility of the blocks. As a result, not only traction on slippery surfaces but also handling is improved.
Key features of the Hankook W452 Winter i*cept RS2 tire
- a number of gripping edges increased by one third compared to the previous model;
- drainage grooves arranged at a sharp angle prevent aquaplaning;
- special "3D claws" improve traction on icy surfaces;
- the three-dimensional design of the lamellas increases the stiffness of the blocks and, at the same time, improves handling.
